TRAMA:
Michael, Nick e Steven stanno per partire per la guerra in Vietnam. Prima di partire, Steven si sposerà con Angela e Michael e Nick, insieme agli altri amici del gruppo, andranno a rilassarsi con una battuta di caccia. Durante la guerra i tre amici verranno sottoposti a pratiche disumane da parte dei Vietcong e ognuno di loro, distrutto mentalmente più che fisicamente, reagirà in maniera diversa.
ANALISI PERSONALE
Seconda pellicola di Michael Cimino, dopo il bellissimo Una calibro 20 per lo specialista, Il cacciatore è uno dei più grandi film mai girati sulla guerra del Vietnam (inutile rimarcare che a completare il quadro ci sono sicuramente Apocalypse now, Full metal jacket e Platoon), uno dei più grandi film girati in assoluto. Una pellicola di tre ore che riesce nell’intento di non annoiare mai e di coinvolgere minuto dopo minuto lo spettatore nelle vicende dei protagonisti, del Vietnam, dell’America. Una regia che rimane impressa per la sua estrema qualità oltre al fatto che offre delle sequenze indimenticabili e straordinarie, girate con una mano ferma che ci accompagna con la telecamera all’interno dei volti dei protagonisti, all’interno dei paesaggi che fanno da sfondo alle loro vicende, all’interno del cuore di una guerra come quella del Vietnam che è poi metafora di qualsiasi guerra. Ed è così che i piani-sequenza, le carrellate verticali e orizzontali, la dilatazione dei tempi, i primi piani, le panoramiche, non ci sembrano solo degli espedienti tecnici vuoti e sterili, ma si riempiono di significato e soprattutto si traducono e trasformano in grandi emozioni e sensazioni. Tacciato addirittura di fascismo, soprattutto al festival di Berlino dove venne fischiato da alcuni spettatori di sinistra, perché Cimino aveva osato mostrare la cattiveria inumana dei Vietcong, piuttosto che la crudeltà dei soldati americani, Il cacciatore, al di là di queste accuse più o meno infondate, va visto e apprezzato soprattutto in quanto pellicola dall’estremo valore formale, oltre che narrativo, che si unisce ad una potentissima carica emotiva che non lascia spazio allo spettatore di impelagarsi in elucubrazioni etiche, politiche o moralistiche. Una è la considerazione di fondo che scaturisce a fine visione e cioè 
quella del totale abominio di qualsiasi guerra, della capacità di ogni guerra possibile ed immaginabile, di rendere crudeli e inetti coloro i quali vi partecipano, indipendentemente dalle fazioni, dai vinti o dai vincitori.
Per questo motivo, e per molti altri come l’immensa recitazione di tutto il cast (un Robert de Niro che giganteggia e ci regala una tra le sue interpretazioni migliori in assoluto, un Christopher Walken da brividi e pelle d’oca, una Meryl Streep alle prime armi ma già grandissima interprete, un John Savage molto intenso e comunicativo e un John Cazale che non avrebbe potuto assaporare il successo della pellicola a causa della sua prematura morte), la strabiliante fotografia di Vilmos Zsigmond (soprattutto durante le sequenze della caccia al cervo), la toccante, ma mai stucchevole o strappalacrime colonna sonora di Stanley Meyers (che viene inframmezzata da alcune sequenze con l’audio in presa diretta); Il cacciatore può essere considerato a tutti gli effetti un vero e proprio capolavoro, una pellicola indimenticabile anche grazie alla sua estrema intensità e profondità, non solo di contenuti, ma anche di riflessioni.
Suddiviso in tre tronconi, della durata complessiva di circa un’ora ciascuno (prima, durante e dopo la guerra), la pellicola ci mostra quali possono essere gli stati d’animo e le sensazioni provate da coloro i quali sono chiamati ad affrontare gli orrori e i dolori causati dalla guerra. Ed è così che nella prima parte possiamo assistere alla gioia di vivere dei ragazzi che ancora non sanno cosa li aspetta, che ingenuamente credono di andare a difendere la loro patria considerata ancora un valore importantissimo, che si interrogano sul loro futuro, il tutto espresso da tre delle sequenze 
straordinarie di cui sopra: quella di Nick, Mike e Steven che con gli amici si recano ubriachi al biliardo e tra una birra e l’altra cominciano a cantare Can’t take my eyes off you, restituendoci simpaticamente ma anche profondamente il valore dell’amicizia; quella del matrimonio durante il quale i ragazzi incontrano un veterano che porta lampanti sul volto i segni della guerra a cui ha partecipato; quella della caccia al cervo con Mike che insiste sul fatto che bisogna catturare i cervi con un colpo solo, oppure lasciarli andare. Quest’ultima sequenza rimanda antiteticamente, nel suo significato di rispetto per la vita, a quell’altra grande sequenza situata nel troncone centrale della pellicola, quella famosissima della roulette russa nella quale i prigionieri dei Vietcong sono costretti a sottoporsi alle scommesse dei loro nemici e a puntarsi la pistola alla tempia, sperando che l’unico proiettile in canna non li colpisca. Nella parte finale della pellicola, la più riuscita forse nel descrivere quali sono le reali conseguenze devastanti della guerra, i tre amici verranno divisi dal caso, ognuno con un peso enorme da sopportare e con ripercussioni fisiche e mentali di non poco conto. Anche in questo troncone sono inserite due meravigliose sequenze che richiamano sia la prima che la seconda parte: la caccia al cervo di Mike che solitario si reca sui monti senza più voglia di sparare nemmeno ai cervi e quella della roulette russa con un faccia a faccia memorabile (anche per la recitazione “astrnomica” di de Niro e Walken), che termina in maniera davvero shockante.

hi non c’è più onorandolo come meglio può e ringraziandolo per aver “fatto la sua parte”, così come avviene alla fine di questo capolavoro che ci lascia con i suoi protagonisti riuniti intorno alla tavola e intenti a cantare “God bless America”, una scelta, questa di Cimino, apparentemente fin troppo patriottica, che in realtà costituisce il finale perfetto a questa tragica storia d’amicizia e d’amore, prima che di guerra.

Si concorda… un capolavoro con sequenze indimenticabili. De Niro immenso riesce a mostrare straordinariamente la psicologia dell’uomo-soldato prima e dopo la guerra…

Credo che questa sia davvero una delle interpretazioni migliori del grande attore. Senza esagerare la metterei pari merito con Taxi driver e C’era una volta in America, le mie preferite di sempre.

Ah finalmente il mio film n° 1 in assoluto, stupenda la scena della della roulette russa contro i vietcong e quella nel finale con Michael che cerca disperatamente di salvare dall’autodistruzione Nick, Walken da lì è diventato un mio mito assoluto.

Comunque volevo dire che “Il Cacciatore” è un vero capolavoro e mi riporta in mente un altro suo film che è invece è il dopo Vietnam una volta ritornati in patria, ovviamente non collegato a questo. Si intitola “Jacknife” dove l’aspetto del personaggio è anche simile.

io penso che la scena del matrimonio sia così lunga proprio per creare un maggiore effetto di contrasto con la parte in vietnam! la bellezza del film per me è proprio nel contrasto tra la vita di prima e quella in vietnam, così netto che ti colpisce allo stomaco!

Film di grandissimo livello, resta una delle migliori scene di guerra quando i “ciribiribi kodak” vietcong torturano de niro con la roulette russa e lui da grande berretto verde gli dice ai “ciribiribi kodak” mettetene tre nel tamburo e loro le caricano nella pistola, poveri idioti.
uno dei film più belli in assoluto. De Niro non è un attore, lui E’ il personaggio che interpreta.
lui DIVENTA mike, trevis bickle,Al capone, jake laMotta,vito corleone…un mito!
Il mio film preferito! Fantastici tutti gli interpreti, indimenticabile, imperdibile, intenso.
In una parola: un capolavoro.
E' sicuramente nella cinquina dei miei film preferiti in assoluto, insieme a un paio di Allen, a un Eastwood e ad un altro film… forse un Billy Wilder… lascia un po' di vaghezza perchè a seconda dell'umore rimango fisso sugli autori ma cambio il film 🙂
